Eriobotrya deflexa, also known as the Japanese Loquat or Japanese medlar, is a species of evergreen tree native to China and Japan. It can reach a height of up to 20-30 ft tall and 15-20 ft wide. It has large, glossy, dark green leaves and produces clusters of white or pink flowers in the fall, followed by large, orange, edible fruit in the winter. The fruit is sweet and flavorful, with a texture similar to that of an apple. It prefers well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. It is hardy in USDA zones 8-10. It is popular among gardeners and landscapers for its large, glossy leaves, attractive flowers and delicious fruit.
