Otatea acuminata is a species of bamboo native to Mexico and Central America. Commonly known as the Mexican Weeping Bamboo, it is a large, fast-growing, evergreen bamboo that can reach a height of up to 20-30 feet. It has thick, woody culms (stems) that are green when young and turn yellow with age. The culms are relatively thin, around 1-1.5 inches in diameter, and have a weeping habit, creating a unique and ornamental appearance. It has large, lush green leaves and can be used as a screen or hedge, as well as for ornamental or privacy purposes. Otatea acuminata is hardy in USDA zones 8-11. It can be grown in full sun or partial shade, prefers well-drained soil, and it is drought-tolerant once established. The species is known for its Weeping habit and ornamental value.
